Obama: Economy 'a big problem, and it's going to get worse'

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20081207/pl_politico/16279

Here is an article with Obama and discussing how the economy is going to keep getting worse. It will get worse before it starts to get better he says. Its a scary thing seeing how many jobs are being lost. It makes the thought of leaving the country for me a little bit more realistic.

Half Million Jobs Gone

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081205/ap_on_bi_ge/financial_meltdown

A half million jobs vanish after one of the largest layoffs in history. With the country in such an economic drought so many companies are being forced to cut jobs. What are all of these people going to do? Maybe work from home on the internet like mentioned earlier in the blog

Credit Card Use Drops

http://money.cnn.com/2008/12/05/news/economy/consumer_credit/index.htm?postversion=2008120515

Here is an article that talks about how credit card use has dropped. Is that really any surprise though? In times like these people are not going to spend money that they dont have. Debit cards and cash are better options becasue its money you actually have. If banks are being bailed out why are we going to borrow from them?

OJ Simpson

Here is an article about OJ Simpson. He was sentenced to 15 years in jail and might be out in 9. Justice or Not?

Companies that will hire you to work at home

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/worklife/12/01/cb.home.based.workers/index.html

I always see commercials or recieve emails saying "Want to make more money sitting at home?" or "I make $10,000 a week as I sit in my home office!". I normally laugh at these people, but I came across an article. Because of the job cuts these days many people are resorting to working from home over the internet. The internet jobs are becoming more popular by the day and many Americans are doing it. Our society is so hooked on our up-to-date technology, so why not work through the internet. There are some companies that only hire employees who work from their home and there are also some that have a certain amount of home-based employees. Is it good or bad to have so many online, stay-at-home jobs available? I think of it as a great thing.

Taj Mahal could have been warned?

I the lastest news on cnn.com. It is said that the Taj Mahal had been given a warning that there might be a terrorist attack coming. They said that they had brought in some added security, but the terrorists still got in. Did they do all they could to prevent this from happening?

Microsoft still interested in Yahoo deal

http://money.cnn.com/2008/11/19/technology/microsoft_yahoo.ap/index.htm?postversion=2008111912

This article came from cnn.com. Basically, Microsoft wants to be in collaboration with Yahoo. After being turned down in May by Yahoo, Microsoft still wants a piece of the major search engine. Yahoo's shares went up even with CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, just speaking of what he wants to do. Ballmer is making these new remarks becase Jerry Yang is no longer a part of the Yahoo Corporation, so shareholders are hoping that there will be a realtionship between the two Fortune 500 companies in the near future.

Greed Gives Free Market a Bad Name

The current economic crisis puts our current Free Market ideals in jeopordy and makes us question our faith in it. The greed behind executives raking in huge profits and the average working individual watching their 401Ks demise. Some still believe in our current economic system while others rant for a change.

Bailing out Bonuses

Congress addressed the potential issue on Wednesday about the intent of the bailout package. Some fear that these corporations will take the loan and acquire other banks and even pay the upper level executives. This bailout package is intended to stimulate the economy not complete the transfer of wealth. Its truly sad that our congress even has to utter these words to corporate America. We should all take a step back and examine the level of greed that it would take to use a rescue package for one's own personal uses.

Health Test Gift Cards -- Brilliant or Bribery?

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/CancerPreventionAndTreatment/story?id=6082238&page=1

This may not sound like an interesting topic, however I feel it is extremely important. There are not enough people, in my opinion, that are truly informed about major health issues. Issues such as HIV/AIDS, the importance of getting a pap smear, or even a colonoscopy. There are some local hospitals is some states hosting "parties" for these causes. For example, a mammogram party took place where women would get food, get a massage, and be pampered before taking a mammogram. A Colorado town hosted a colonoscpy party where the patients were pampered and served water in martini glasses. These types of things put most people at ease when it comes to these health tests. What some hospitals are doing today are bribing Americans to get tested by giving away $50 gas cards to the first X number of people that sign up. I think it is a great idea and I do not really consider it bribing in a bad way. Even giving discounts on tests will increase the amount of people who get them. Being tested annually is extrememly important, not only for adults, but for young adults as well.

Dairy Follow Up

http://www.asianage.com/presentation/leftnavigation/news/international/dairy-giants-issue-public-apology.aspx

Dairy executives apologize through mass media this Sunday, signifying the problems and mistakes of their firms. However, no one is taking responsibility. The executives are not admitting fault on themselves they are hiding behind the power of the organization. If this would have happened in America a simple apology would not cut it. We as Americans would demand accountability.

FDIC plans to insure more of your money.

The FDCI has federally insured the deposits to banks of up to $100,000 for quite some time now. Considering the financial turmoil the agency has asked congress to give a emergency power to hike the insurance for deposits. The idea around this decision is in hopes to increase the confidence in the financial system for all investors.

Cheaper but Deadly

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,24386778-2703,00.html

The Chinese Government has been caught red handed again. It seems to be more and more frequent that these scandals involve cheaper means of production through harmful chemicals. This week, milk used in baby formulas has been found to be watered down with substitution of a chemical called 'melamine' which supposedly enhances the appearance of overall proteins and nutrition of the food.

This article shows how no one really understood the serious problems AIG was having until this past week, and no one realized how much was building up. So, the government stepped in.
